Please can anyone help me to find what is wrong with my Morris. I have been given an old car and it is in a not very good condition. I want to fix it up to use. the engine works but it backfired and is very rough. It cuts out and is hard to start. I have not yet done anything to it but will change the spark plugs and the points. I want to see what else I might need to do before I start. Also it has a starting handle but there is no hole that I can see it fits. Can you buy parts easily for the Morris as I am very new to this. Thank you very much.

Lo, yes you can buy all parts for the Minors
and they are probably cheaper than parts for any other car. If you want advice the year
of your car is important. Do change the points and plugs as a first step and clean
the points on the PETROL PUMP ( next to the
battery)undo the plastic cover. see how you go and if still in
trouble we should be able to sort you out
between all of us

Lo, forgot to say that the starting handle
hole is smack in the middle of the bumper.
If there is no hole there then you have the
wrong bumper. Perhaps the number plate has
been fitted over it?? Having a starting
handle makes turning the engine for points
gap setting and checking the timing much
easier

Hello. Thank you very much again Willie. My friend thinks the Morris has a new bumper and the hole is behind it. I will have a look tomorrow and see. I will be buying a set of spark plugs and the other parts next week hopefully and will do what you said about the fuel pump. You are very kind for taking the trouble to advise me. I am sorry if I am a pain in the bottom. Thankyou very much.

Navnit, don't ever apologise for trying to get a Minor back on the road. Don't worry, we are here to help you. Hopefully a few simple and cheap service parts will get the engine running smoothly. Let us know if you want the contact details of local & mail order parts specialists. As Willie says, many parts are very cheap.
Strange about the lack of a hole for the starting handle. I doubt the chrome bumper
blade is correct for a Minor. How long has the car been off the road ?

Hello. Chris thank you very much for taking the time to contact me. I can see the time you wrote and you must be very tired. Early to bed and early to rise my mother always says. I have looked and there is a small hole behind the bumper so I think may be I will take that off and then see if the starting handle will fit into the car. I have been given some paperwork yesterday and I am very surprised that this Morris still has an mot until september. Not only that there are only three owners since it was a new car. I believe the car was used and that the man stopped when it was jumped on and dented. Thank you again for your help.

Hi,
I noticed that Navnit is in Birmingham. Just about everything you could ever want for a MM is vailable from the Birmingham Morris Minor centre. Its down the Wolverhampton Rd, near J2 of the M5. They have a web site www.morrisminor.co.uk
They aint very cheap, so some of the more common parts you can shop around for elsewhere. (I generaly get my ignition bits from Charlie Browns!)
If you are close by, and are still having problems getting it to run smooth, let me know, and we can arrange for me to have a listen.
Cheers.

Hello. Willie is right. Chrismas has come very early in the patel house this year. I really still cannot believe my good fortune. My father says that sometimes things happen and you do not know why but you must grasp the opportunity with open arms. last week I was worried about my Morris not running right, and this week I have very few worries. My studies will hopefully be paid for and this means I can have less worry and devote more time to my studies. Thank you.

Hello.
I am so very sorry I forgot to thank Mr Catsoup for the very kind offer of assistance. It was very kind of you. At the present Navnit is flying up there in the clouds. I never expected something like this to happen. Normally you have to work very hard to make a lot of money. My uncles friend has worked very hard and now he is giving me his money to have his name on his number plate. It seems a very crazy thing to happen. Thank you.
