what is 38G

HI just got an engine from a friend the engine number starts with 38G I know 8G is goldseal but why 38G? Thanks

Some form of reconditioned unit ? Any clues on the block about capacity - the 1098 should have a plate with '1100' and the 948 with '1000' nailed to the block near the fuel pump outlet plate (not used in Minors!). Just possible it could be an 848 cc - the last of the A35 (and possibly Minor ??) vans were fitted with this variation.
