Where to fit..............
I have one on my van that was fitting 7 years ago and is attached to the inner wing plate where it meets the flitch. However the lastest kit that I purchased the bottle is a lot smaller so I guess itcan be located elsewhere.
I would welcome any thoughts or like to know where you have put yours
Thanks in advance
HAPPY NEW YEAR

If it is one of the inferior brand made by the comapny connected with a particular west country supplier then I might suggest that you site it somewhere where, when it leaks, (as it almost certainly will - I'm on my 5th now) it doesn't take paintwork with it.

Peete
mine has not come from the West Country but a supplier in Sussex is it one and the same. i intend to use Silicone fluid so no damage to paint. My vans has had a similar set up for 7 years no seals gone.........in fcat nowt on the brakes!
So where is yours

There have been some reports of DOT 4 fluid affecting the black hose, but if your using Silicon it should be fine.
Safety tip: Make sure it's located somewhere so that in the unfortunate event of a crash, the brake fluid doesn't hit the hot engine. Not sure about silicon fluid, but DOT 4 is more flameable than petrol when misted.

Hello again Russ
I had a problem with this kit some time ago, with fluid osmosisizing?

through the pipe. I was using DOT 4 fluid. I changed to JLH kit with copper pipe and all is now fine.
Not sure how to link to the thread but it was called
"Sweaty brake remote resevoir pipe??" and posted in 'Mechanical' on 13 July 2007.
Cheers
Dave

I'd say we have replaced around ten of these cylinder kits, with another to do tommorow, as it has as Dave says leeched through the pipe. This has been a problem for some time now, the main seller of this kit is aware of the issue, yet a recent purchase from one of our customers seems to indicate that this issue has not been resolved, despite assurances to the contrary.

I don't know Russ, is the honest answer, I'd probably give them a call and ask for assurances, if it then leaks when fitted, I'd certainly return it.
Just another instance of a long term problem, from a selection of designs, which has yet to be addressed, mostly, and worryingly to do with braking.

Yes that would appear to be the kit I have problems with.

OK Guys thanks again........................Can I just recap is it bottle or the pipe that leaks?
If is the pipe can that be changed or is is the seal at the base of the bottle?
Lastly if this is a known issue and as Jonathon says after all it is the braking system why does the MMOC not pass this info on to its members?

From our experiences the actual pipe presents most problems.
I'm amazed that this issue has not been resolved by either the manufacturer or the main supplier. As I say its is one of several serious design and manufacturing flaws that still plagues the market place. Unfortunately maybe only a serious accident will force a change, the trade, to their detriment are aware of problems but are resistant to making less profit from alternative suppliers (bar 3 that is, to be totally fair)
The club (MMOC LTD) well I'm in danger of being moderated, but I sense that the trade are left to their own devises and policing (and quite rightly) little seems to be known by the folk who should know, and if possessing the knowledge is the will there to do something about it. I have my own personal opinion on this , but that would definitely be moderated. I'd certainly like a more pro active approach to be taken, but it might be a a question of is it the clubs, place and responsibility to do so. I think you might be able to gauge my opinion on this.

I believe that a club should be the voice of it's members. If this issue were to affect enough then maybe a club would act accordingly. however, given the non-standard application of the product it is, from a practical and emotive viewpoint, not going to be used by 99.5% of the membership. That, unfortunately does not create enough legal muscle to take this where I and you believe it should be taken Johnathon.

Jono it truly sounds like a trading standards job when you think of the possible implications.
Selling something not fit for specified purpose is against the law - sale of goods act etc. From whats been said a claimant would walk through court - and more than likely consequential loss for any damage caused by leaked fluid to bodywork etc.
Regardless of that its a pretty low thing for someone to be selling something they know there are issues with - and when it comes to something with such potentially dangerous consequences its pity the rule dont allow naming and shaming.

Peetee, I'd say that around 200 sets of one type of disc kit are sold annually, which probably includes a half to as many H/T tanks, so in terms of actual numbers I feel this to be quite significant. However how many of these are club members and report a problem I don't know. I'd say from last years AGM when the question of complaints against traders was raised, that no one complains. There were only two specific complaints against specific traders, so maybe unhappy customers swallow the indignity of being fleeced and end up buying elsewhere.
Trading standards should be involved, I agree and its high time some products are removed from sale until the issues are totally dealt with. However one main 'brake specific' issue has been allowed to go unchecked for getting on for 12-15 years, despite protestation from the suppliers/retailers and those in the workshops who have to try a redress the problem or replace the kit at 'their 'own cost, not the manufacturers, who blindly carry on producing the stuff. Still I feel that over the years I have written enough on different forums for those interested to be able to recognise this particular kit, so if you have read ans still buy..............

Given that many of these kits are fitted by home mechanics with various degrees of skill (including myself) I wonder how many of those people have assumed the problem is down, in some part, to thier abilities and neve raised the problem with the supplier.

Good point, this is an excuse used by one trader when i challenged them on the quality of repair panels. The answer that came back to me was that we were to critical and that the majority of sales were to the general public (who tended not to complain) rather than the trade who by and large are fed up with having to almost re make some panels in order that they fit.
You can be assured that we are doing our bit to raise the quality of parts across the range, so maybe now the DIY builders should make their voice heard.
We are always at the end of the phone if anyone needs advice on purchasing a given part or have had difficulty with it. I must add , we are not trading standards, nor do we have any more clout than Joe Blogs, but we do have the experience.just don't all call at once please !!.
