Christmas Puzzle

My brother gave me this tool for Christmas.

Now he and I believe we know what its for, but do you?

It is a long handled pair of locking pliers which are locked shut by the use of a slider that can be seen in the photograph. Attached to the centre of the pliers is a helical sprung loaded handle that rotates when you pull it out.

That's enough of a clue answers by PM please, but any questions are welcome.

perhaps someone else has one of these valuable and usefull tools.

Sent a PM cause ive seen them before - never seen them being used though - think my old Grandad had a pair and he was an engineer.
If i'm right then they did make sense seeing where & how they should have been used but darned if i can remember what it was doing.
Hmm severe memory lapse, time for another beer :-)

And Orkney is right in his description of them - in only 7 mins.

But we won't spoil it by telling anyone what they are for.

Any other suggestions by PM please.

I'm beginning to think that they could be really useful working on the morris!

I've got one.
I think I've even got the instructions somewhere.
Never used it though as bought for when I was planning on building a small aircraft (health reasons stopped my flying solo so gave up that idea).
Besides aircraft also used in race cars / motorbikes which might give a clue to those who don't know.
Only very occasionally seen their use on road vehicles - mainly engines.
