TaX exempt

Hi all i have just bought a minor van date of registration 01/01/1972 the owner has the old type reg document and it does not say tax exempt how do i go about this, checking on the dvla web site the van was last taxed in 1987 so been in a barn for 20years, though has 56,000 on the clock the van is all complete although rusty but has everything else as original seats door cards seat belts and pleanty of spares

It already is tax exempt. You may need to get the status changed to 'historic vehicle', but that should just means getting in touch with the DVLA

The easiest way is to get an MOT then take all the paperwork to your local DVLA office and they will do it on he spot. BUT you must have a current MOT first.

Any vehicle manufactured before 1 Jan 1973 gets road tax exemption - even if it wasn't first registered until later, provided proof of that manufacturing date can be provided - it qualifies.

But remember, you still have to display a tax disc or you will be slapped with the fine regardless! :o
