Morris Minor Owners Club

Hello, i've been looking for a morris minor for a while now as my first car. I have been looking for a £3000 morris saloon, black with red interior. At last, I have seen a good one in classic cars weekly.

The only problem is that it is in Lancashire, and I live near Leicester. The car is £4000 (a bit above budget!!!). I do not have any experience with cars, so do not know if the car is overpriced, or has any problems. I would like to view the car, and was wondering if anyone who lives closeby would mind looking at it aswell to see if it is good?

I am going to phone the seller tomorrow to get his exact address and see when the car is available for viewing. Maybe this Sunday (tomorrow).

Hi Jake for £3000 you should get a first class car wanting no work whatsoever the £4000 one would have to be something a bit special to warrant that sort of money, like a recent full restoration or similar and remember most of the major issues are underneath and not mechanically, there is a buyers guide on here make use of it and treat the seller to 1001 questions about the car and dont be afraid to walk away from the car if you have any doubts, also at this time of year its harder to sell so if its a really good car make a low offer you have nothing to lose.

£4000 certainly sounds a lot for a saloon. Remember also that Classic Car Weekly is free advertising - so it costs sellers nothing to punt cars in at high prices and see if they get a nibble!

It is indeed a hefty price for a saloon and should really be show standard at the very least. I have a similar one for sale for less than half that, which I would advertise in the for sale bit, but I dont as I dont wish to upset anyone as traders arent supposed to advertise. I'm not a trader in Morris Minors - havent sold one for 18months now but I am a panel maker and body restorer, and I'll respect the rules and not rock the boat....
The club price guide is well worth a look, though it is only a guide. There can be exceptions at each end of the scale.
