I started getting a stange noise first thing in the morning and I thought it was the relase bearing squeeling. It was intermittent and disappeared quite quickly and was only there while I was releasing the clutch pedal. On my way home tonight I am now getting a simlilar noise after I relase the clutch pedal. Could it be the bushes on the clutch pedal shaft or the relase bearing even although the pedal has been released. Any suggestions or tests that I could do to isolate the problem?

How many miles has the clutch done and in what sort of driving conditions e.g. mostly motorway or lots of town driving?

Unlikely to be pedal bushes, but eliminate them by pressing the clutch with the engine off.

You can inspect the release bearing with everything in place, remove rubber blanking plug on LH side of gearbox casing, and use a torch to see how much carbon is left on the release bearing. A small mirror on a telescopic boom is handy here. Carbon should stand proud of the bearing casing by a few millimeters.

If not it's a new bearing and probably clutch as well, it could be the clutch lining is worn to the rivets.

Thanks for that. I'll try and have a look at the bearing at the weekend. I can borrow the use of a pit to have a look underneath.

A pit is ideal, if you do end up using a jack, use axle stands
