greese or ep90

my brother is over fro austrailia,we were talking about restroing old cars . he took a vitesse over with him to do up,it was a dog of a car.he asked me how i lubricate the trunnions.i said greese.he has got info from the triamph club that ep90 is better for the trunnions is this correct or is it verbil dhirea

Grease for a Minor. Some triumphs use thick oil, but no idea which ones and I thought those ones had an oil reservoir.

Back when I had a Herald 1200 the standard practice seemed to be putting Oil in but the books all said grease so I stuck with grease as I didn't want to clean out all the old grease and start from scratch.

There have been a few models where the makers stipulated grease in the front suspension but where it was found that EP90 oil gave better protection and prolonged the life of the system. I inject EP90 into my Minors swivel pins and follow it immediately with grease. (EP90
has very good 'clinging' properties).

Had a spitfire once ,it must be EP90 not grease and give em a couple of squirts a month.

Yes, the EP90 is forced out by the grease but by that time it has left
a coating over all of the friction surfaces and since it is designed to withstand the extreme pressures in the differential it is, in my opinion, a useful exercise.

But the reason the EP90 clings so well is because of the Extreme Pressure additives, the same that should be pressent in multi purpose grease which is also an extreme pressure lubricant. I can't see it doing any harm at all, just seems a futile exercise.

Might be due to a difference in materials. Triumph trunnions are a bronze type material (dont know the exact make up) whereas Minor ones are a steel forging. This may be why different lubricants are used. Just a thought...
