V8 fuel consumption on tickover question...

Been having an unsuccesful google - wondered if anyone migth be able to have a stab at this ...
3.5L v8 whats the approximate fuel consumption gallons per hour when ticking over?
Just pondering this as seem to be forever putting petol in the range rover and it hardly goes anywhere in terms of miles.
When it was on the road would get 23-25mpg and of that a good 3 miles would be foot to the floor.
Its modified but of course that means not only does it breathe more easily with better performance also means the fuel economy is beter.
(fast road cam, upgraded ecu, induction kit, janspeed 4-2-1 both sides of the block)
Nowadays its just a glorified dumper
but its got a lot of work to do soon, as its normally fetching & carrying it never seems worth turning it off - filling in potholes in the track or moving walling stone e.g.
That and the battery is far from new so dont like to put too much strain on it as wouldnt want it to be a no starter come the snowy times when it might be needed in an emergency.
I'd let it run dry and test with a gallon to see but last time it accidentally ran out was a pig to get going again being an injection.
Anyhow grateful for any enlightenment, one of those things just need to know cause now ive thought of it its driving me mad(der)
