From the short time I have been here I have felt welcome but have noticed a strange undercurrent of annoyance at odd Moderation over certain postings.

Having paid it no due, I noticed today a discussion has vanished.(was to do with a car for sale in Sussex)
As a subscriber it would be nice to know why, otherwise I will just presume that it was because the poster ran a VW forum and said something derogitary about minors or us.

Hi Peter to answer your question especially as you had taken part in the posting.
It was not deleted because of a VW forum link because when all said and done they are part of the classic car movement (even if I personally cant stand them, he says ducking).
The poster who came on here only to sell his poor old car and then got upset and climbed out of his pram when given an idea of its true value, said he even found the comments offensive, at that remark I re-read everything 3 times to see if I had missed something (well I hadn`t) all I can think of is that his site must be very angelic with draconian guidelines, so when he asked me to delete the posting I did so for which he thanked me.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Probably a little disappointed as I felt a small battle coming on with the VW guys.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy rivalry. Often the classic mags compare minors and VW's as they were so similar in many ways.

I had a 1966 beetle and after spending the summer making it look pretty it broke down and when the tow truck lifted the front the chassis broke.

Quite a lucky escape I suppose. One of the wheels came off too while driving When you are 18 maintenance is not a high priority!

Hi peter I was drawn to your photos in particular the top R,H and the bottom L,H. Were they photos of the other cars in the line up before rebuilds or are they simply donor cars, would be nice to know. :D :D :D

It is a really quick method to strip to bare metal.

I used to own a beetle.
I'll say this much for it - stepping out of a 1970 Beetle and into a Minor is like stepping out a Go Kart and into a Rolls Royce!

Nothing handled like my beetle though and I do miss it. She was on custom bottom arms, uprated torsion bars and spax shockers.

I now have a part share in a Type 2 camper, so I'm saying nothing about VW's!! (except that I refuse ever to consider buying a modern VW)

It was a VW golf that killed ... nay murdered ... my first minor.

Thats exactly why I asked for it to be removed. The comments keep rolling in from a certain mod namely Kevin. I haven't only come on here to sell my car other wise I wouldn't be reading this thread now would I?

"climbed out of his pram when given an idea of its the true value"??

I was under no illusion as to its value, which is why I was selling it cheap and open to offers. I got offended by your comments Kevin and no one elses.

"all I can think of is that his site must be very angelic with draconian guidelines,"

The site is young and to be honest needs very little moderation. Everyone is polite and the moderators lead by example and dont make comments like "climbed out of his pram". If they did make comments like you seem to make a habbit of doing I would not let them be a mod.

I suggest you look at your moderator style, which is why I took offence and asked for the thread to be removed and no other reason.

Paul - for what it's worth from a completely neutral perspective - a person who also happened to be a Mod commented that better had been offered for free on here - and it was a fact he was stating.

That may well be the case and i'm not disputing that at all. I have been offered cars before in the past simply because people do not have the time or the patience or simply want a car to go to a good home. I completely understand that fact.

I also undertand that there is a "For sale" thread and people who post their items in there should be treated with respect. If they wanted to give it away for free they would have offered it for free or posted in another thread/forum for free items. Respect peoples posts, if you dont want it then walk on. If someone posted a for sale thread on my VW forum I would not say that last week I had been offered one for free, because simply it is not relevant. They posted it because they want to sell it not give it away.

If someone put an advert up a games console for sale would you then say "yeah but I got given one of them for free". I dont think you would.

People are far too eager to comment on other peoples cars on forums and make irrelevant statements. There was simply no need for the comment in the first place and as for his subsequent posts well...... like I said i'm not bothered as I know the Morris Minor is probably only good for spares, its the attitude of some moderators.

Forums are suppose to be warm and welcoming. Moderators are not supposed to make assumptions like "he only came on here to sell". It makes your forum look like a closed shop and very close knit. Think about how it looks to outsiders. That is a bold statement, which is not justified.

A lot of people here have had run-ins with the moderators from time to time, me included, but at the end of the day, they behave the same as any other poster, good/bad; they may well not have had any particular training for the post they hold, just a desire to have some influence. On the whole most seem to be fair people who are prepared to explain things that cause conflict, and also accept that they can get it wrong.

As I said before all I was statings are facts and Ok you didnt like what I said but that does not make them any less valid.
I haven't only come on here to sell my car other wise I wouldn't be reading this thread now would I?
Ok Paul please explain to me if you did not come on here to sell your car what was the reason as I can only see one other, thats to have a go at me because you didnt like the facts I put before you and to continue to do so and to carry on having a go at other regular posters.
Moderators are not supposed to make assumptions like "he only came on here to sell"
OK explain that remark to me as to how would you interpret your initial postings as it comes across as a fact not an assumption.
It makes your forum look like a closed shop and very close knit. Think about how it looks to outsiders.
We are probably one of the friendliest forums on the web and to say we appear like a closed shop and are close knit is about a million miles away from the facts and I have say again you came on here to sell your car and have then had the cheek to run down me (thats OK as a moderator it can happen) with your Morris Minor knowledge and worse still have a dig at some of our regular posters who just reinforce the facts that were stated in the first place.
What you seem fail to understand is that we do our best to accept everybodies opinions, ideas and knowledge (yes we have a few heated discussions now and again) and try to hit common ground for the expansion of knowledge of the Morris Minor to enable its longlevity and we have never had this sort of attack made against our honest and open forum by a new poster before and we always welcome new posters with open arms and at no time has an offensive or false remark been made in your direction,
I know that you dont see it that way but we cant please everybody all of the time although we would love to, we do try our best as a bunch of Moggie enthusiasts :D with a passion for our favorite car 8)
