Thought I'd share this whilst riding out the storm

THURSDAY 8th: This morning WSW’ly winds increasing severe gale F9 over Fair Isle, Orkney and Caithness. Across much of Shetland winds lighter at F6-7 and falling cyclonic variable for a time late morning A cloudy morning with scattered showers. Around midday winds are expected to veer NNW’ly and increase generally gale F8 to severe gale F9 and soon afterwards increase further to severe gale F9 to storm F10. Damaging gusts of 75-85 mph are likely in squally showers which will quickly turn wintry with hail, sleet and the risk of thunder. Over higher ground there may well be slight accumulations of wet snow. During the evening winds will steadily ease to a gusty NNW’ly F7 to gale F8. Some slushy deposits may well occur at lower levels during the evening.
Sea state – Very rough then extremely rough with a 5 metre W’ly swell becoming 6 to 7 metre N’ly.

Ferries for today cancelled yesterday in advance, all schools closed, the roads accross the barriers closed etc etc.

Currently averaging over 40knts wind per 10 min averge - best gust so far 72knts

had to go to the shop early this morning to deliver fresh eggs - decided to brave it in scabby the trav and oh it was quite exciting ! catch a gust and it would send you a foot off course in a fraction of a second !

Chap at the shop was telling me that earlier a lady had gone there and didnt think before parking and opening car door - wind caught it and bent it back double on the hinges

Anyway fingers crossed for as lttle damage as possible, spent yesterday battening down the hatches so to speak and preparing the animal houses, there will always be a few things missed which will never be seen again.
But on the bright side plenty of supplies in, toasty fire in the lounge and its not peaking gusts of 115mph like it did 8 years ago !

That makes the Kent weather (including the famous 1980's "Hurricane") seem positively benign.

its been nice untill 1500 changed myrtles oil and filter got her back to the lock up before the hevans opened up and the rain hammered down lets hope its dry tomorrow got to go back to work postman

You couldnt keep a superglued Toupe on out there today let alone a kilt

how's the weather now? and thinking of a previous thread, would beards survive without superglue

Just had a report that 'scabby' was seen at Lidl's

Still pretty grim ... winds@36knt av speed now so as forecast slowing down! Some thick ole wintry showers too, few mini blizzards and hail and that really hurts at the sideways speed its going.
Was thinking earlier one of those paintball masks would be handy for days like this
Mind you a beard might be handy too for such a purpose

The jungle drums were wrong
had to take the crappy car yesterday, when i popped in there - needed to bring back some chicken food, sheep food & coal - too much for scabby until the new springs go on - that would be another of the hidden travs !
And i still havnt caught up with the chap not a mile from here who has 2 of the things - will have to go a visiting one of these days !

The weathers not too bad here on the North East coast and the winds have dropped a little, but just seen on the news there is a tidal surge coming down the North sea combined with high tide they are warning of flooding possibilities will keep my eyes open for a Moggy called scabby floating past

Just saw that flood alert on the BBC website - scary stuff fingers crossed to all in the way it doesnt arrive at high water. Think thats going to be the biggest news of the year come the morning

Things were a bit breezy between Elgin and Aviemore, but certainly not as bad as you guys had it. Strangely enough there was barely a breeze by the time I'd got as far as Stirling...
2 days later and those same storms caught up with me in East Germany

Lucky you didn't drive through Livingston. Bad Curry meant it was very windy last Friday for most of the day.
