Does a 1098 head fit the 948 engine without any modifications? As ive been offered an unleaded 1098 head, but have a 948 engine!

Yes - but it will need 60 thou skimming off the face to make the comp ratio reasonable. It's a very worthwhile improvement to the 948 engine - that later head (12G202) has larger inlet valves and better shaped ports and throats. Best used in conjunction with a camshaft from a 1098 engine - AEA 630 - which has better lift and timing.
How do you 'know' it's unleaded ? They never were as standard - has this one been modified with ex seat inserts ?

Yeap, its one with inserted valve seats in, Originally bought from Bull motif about 3 years ago.

Well worth getting it skimmed then - should only cost about £30 - or 'packet of fags' if you know anyone who works with machines !! Just check before to see if it has already been skimmed. All heads start off at 2.750" inches thick. Measure yours - if it's less then obviously it has been skimmed!
