Outer sill panel

Hi All
I'm just about to weld in outer sill panel on my 2-door but am confused.

The replacement panel comes with a slight step down at either end of the vertical inner flange but there's no corresponding steps on the flanges that they will join - i.e. spring hanger plate or front of the inner sill. From what I can tell from the other side of the car, the original panels had no step down. Does this matter?
