hi guys,

I've bought a new clutch and have just got it out of its wrappings to fit it to the van.

Looking at the driven plate, though, the damper springs seem very varied. One doesn't move at all within its slot. Two move a little bit. The last one moves around very loosely in its slot.

Is this discrepancy a problem? I'm reluctant to fit a clutch unless I know it is in good working order, and I just don't know whether the looseness of this spring is an issue!

Also, the release bearing surface is scratched in a couple of places, and has a small chip out of one outer angle. Again, is this a problem?

I have no idea if this detail makes any difference, but it's one of the non-coloured springs which is loose

is it a borg and beck one or the cheaper pattern one, modern repro you should know by now is crap

sold to me as a proper borg & beck one, by our favourite parts specialist

It will be fine - use it. And the carbon thrust will be ok too. It soon wears down !

They're not actually called Borg and Beck any more - it's something like "AP Drivetrains."

That's the one, Alex - "A P Driveline". Still sold under the Borg & Beck name etc.

Think I might call the supplier on Monday and discuss this loose spring thing.

There should be a data sheet with the clutch that tells you the springs may appear slack etc. This is normal. The clutch may well buzz or rattle slightly at certain revs, but this soon stops once some lining dust gets on the springs.

does that include the new old stock van side panels and rear doors
