....all I need to do now is to cut it to size!

Im planning to scarf in a piece to replace the rot:

And if I need some other repairs, I now have a few other pieces:

Thanks to Dave my next door neighbour (who's a tree surgeon), who provided them - they were cut down around 2 years ago so are well seasoned, the rings indicate the tree was about 80 years old.

I'll post some pictures when I start work on it but have to finish the wardrobe for my younger daughter (the doors are in the background of the second pic), so it wont be soon - still my renovation plans always were going to be long term!.

Sorry a couple of the pics are a bit big - I cant remeber how to reduce them ... :-?

Nice to see craftmanship starting with just the raw materials. Great stuff.

Hi Dunketh - Yup - a Kity bandsaw, I wouldnt (couldnt!) attempt this without it.
It'll still be hard going through this ash, it weighs a ton, close straight grain and it's as dense as a 50's peasouper!.

but with sharp tools ash is very good to work with, :D :D and it was a very young tree, so timber should be good
in france they use a lot of young oak to make doors , windows etc
