Steady cable
The engine steady rod is intended to reduce clutch judder, not the gearbox steady cable.

cable
This always results in a long dicussion, the top engine
steady was introduced to lessen clutch judder, the engine
steady cable is to prevent the forward movement of the
engine under braking,BUT, if the engine can move forwards
when you depress the clutch pedal then it could reduce the
degree if operation of the clutch thus causing judderBECAUSE
the clutch linkage is connected to the gearbox on one side and
the chassis on the other(not a common arrangement) so both
of these engine control assemblies are important. Mine are
both adjusted correctly but I still get judder in reverse!!

Yes, I think that my judder is more than likely a poor quality friction plate. If I slip the clutch a bit when taking off fast, then the juddering disappears for the rest of the day. I just presumed that the plate keeps getting small glazed parts which I remove when doing the above. Obviously this is far from a perfect arrangement, but, I can live with a slight judder for now!!
