squeaky suspensions
I've recently had all my bushes replaced with poly bushes and the ones in the eyebolts make a terrible noise. As far as I remember the guy who replaced them didn't put any grease there, saying these ones don't get grease.
I've put some WD40, which totally solved the problem but for 3 days only. I've now tried silicon spray grease but it didn't make any difference. Should I remove them and grease them (big job), or is there an easier solution? Engine oil?
Regards

You should contact the supplier and use their suggested grease. WD40 and engine oil, even some ordinary grease can damage the poly bush. White grease is the best to go for and is favoured by most suppliers.
Some poly bushes are self lubing, but still require white grease on assembly. beware cheap bushes, I'd suggest Superflex.

hmmm, just spoke to ESM and they said these bushes don't need grease. According to them the noise probably comes from the pins that go through the eyebolt, which I remember was quite worn. If only I had known before! I've got to take the whole thing apart again the replace the pins now!

Nonsense! The 'pins' go through the poly bushes - which sit in the eyebolt. There is no contact between pins and eyebolt - unless the bushes are badly ruined, which is often the case with old rubber bushes. Yes - the eyebolts may be worn and if you noticed that when doing the bushes you should have fitted new ones. However with new poly bushes fitted - there will be no pin/eyebolt contact. For now - just spray them with grease!

he has already said he fitted new poly bushes, so the bushes will not be worn
i would say grease tehm with white grease, and fit new eye bolt and or pins
btw i had a van that i put esm`s poly bushes ( and these are not very good quality BTY) and did not grease them and they squeaked, so white grease them

I had the bushes replaced by a mechanic and he replaced the eyebolts which were badly worn. The pin did look a bit flat on the top side, where the pin got in contact with the eyebolt with the worn rubber bushes. I thought that the pins were part of the torsion bars so I didn't insist to have them replaced (unfortunately). So it is possible that the pin moves a little bit within the bush.
I think I'm just going to go for white grease for now, provided I can spray it without removing the bushes (if I have to remove the bushes I'll replace the pins too).
Where can I buy good quality bushes from next time?
Rgds

Duck Oil is different to WD40. I spray it on the exposed steel parts of machine tools to prevent rust.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Agreed. Although I wouldn't dream of fitting ESM poly-bushes without lubrication (as they suggest) simply because they'd squeek like fury. I've heard of people having no problems with brands such as superflex and powerflex, but then they're more expensive and I suppose you get what you pay for.jonathon wrote:Always refer to the manufacturers suggested lubrication for poly bushes.
Using any old grease, could invalidate a warranty, or cause premature wear or degradation of the bushes.
