Rear Light Cluster

My Saloon was created (born) in October 1962 in Dublin, but has the later (Safer) light cluster. This car was never fitted with the trafficer indicator lights. I presume I am correct in terms of originality in fitting the flashing red light clusters to the rear ? Although I would obviously fit them with a seperate orange indicator, probably under the rear bumper.

Don't really understand. If you are trying to revert to the original layout
then the rear light cluster is also the indicator because the brake light
flashes! i.e. you would not need any orange lenses. If you are adding indicators then orange units under the bumper would be fine provided that they can be seen from the side too.

Sorry but I think add-on flashers look dreadful. Just use the later orange and red rear light units - much neater.

i had this issue with my semaphore bulbless and aftermarket indicators fitted. but not flashing
the fronts were white and the back red.

rung my usual MOT man who's also a friend now as i take a lot of cars in, he said the ruling is.

If semaphores are fitted they must pop up and down easily with no sticking and show an amber light to the front and rear

and if there are any other indicators been fitted they must show and flash an amber light

ie i have to replace the fronts for an amber bulb and change the backs completely.

if the cars were fitted with a red flasher on the red as standard then that is ok but not as an aftermarker thing it has to be amber.

Yeah, I know there is a lot of personal opinion as to what looks right, as well as being legal. I think my car should have the flashing red rear cluster, but in todays driving world that can be a bit confusing, so I was thinking of putting on a couple of flashing amber indicators under the bumper as I think wing mounted ones just don't look right. I'am sort of attempting to go for a modified original look. I've seen it before at some shows... but then maybe I'll just buy some new chrome and keep the later ones ?

I think that you will find that the original white front indicators are still legal as 'original equipment'. The glass domed aftermarket type units
fitted on the wings were all the rage in the 1960 s as we modified our
cars to fit the new fangled flashing indicators so I regard them as old friends!

I never knew that. So technically they would be original too, or at least mounting a flashing indicator above the brake light as you have done.

If your car had the white front flashers then, of course, it is original and,
as far as I am aware, is legal. The domed glass rear indicators were never fitted to Minors (except later Travellers) but are perfectly legal.
