Pin-front shackle

Was just wondering how would parts no 21 and 24 in the link below be fixed together, welded, press fit or otherwise?

Looks like none of the above - 23 going through the hole in 24 - bush on, through spring and done up with nut 22?

No 21 should be a press-fit into No 24, they will then rust together permanently.

Hence it's common practice to remove the small nuts & bolts (25,26) and press out the now combined 21/24 part when replacing the bushes (23).

Yes - you always neeD to undo the 2 wee bolts (if you can). the design is crazy - dunno why it's like that - can't see any obvious advantage over simple straight pin.

All the BMC manual says about this mod, is that it a replaceable plate. I suspect it is to avoid wrecking the actual spring hanger while trying to get the flange style pin out. As you say, strange engineering choice.
