1098 heads - again!

Have just found a small crack in my unleaded 1098 head - just after fitting new valve guides and a grinding in valves! Fitted it anyway (need the car!) with a non copper gasket which lasted about 3 miles. Not very happy today. (See Wanted section).
Have just scanned the previous 1098 head posts and am confused - easily done!
As I need a head, I might as well look at the options - if a 1098 head doesn't turn up I need something to sit on top of the block and keep the gases in!
So, my question is .... which heads will fit without machining? I don't have the facilities to do it. I would want to keep the existing manifold etc.
Thanks !

The standard 1098 head is the 12G202...other cars with the
same head are: Austin 1100 1963-1967,Morris 1100 1963-
1967, Vanden Plas 1100 1963-1965 (all prefixed 10MA).
Midget 1100 1961-64 ( prefixed 10CG). I would imagine
that the Minor head would be by far the most common.

Thanks!
So, for all other heads (discussed in this forum) some machining is needed? There isn't, I suppose, a more modern head (ie better flow and or unleaded) that would fit without machining? I was hoping that I could use a Metro/later Mini etc head which would avoid the cost of another unleaded conversion.
Strangely enough, the old head is on and the car runs well - I retightened the head nuts and compression is 11.5 bars! The water loss I had assumed (as dusk settled on a very tired Minor labourer) was from a split bypass hose - straight out of the blister pack and split completely in half longitudinaly.

Could the existing head not be repaired with a micro weld applied to the crack?
Surely there are local engineering firms which could do this in a few minutes, grinding down the weld and lightly skimming the head? It might be worth asking a few firms...

Paul, if you are desperate, I am quite happy to let you have a standard head. Your only in the next county and I'm in Winchester tomorrow evening. 07976 356633.

Chris,
it is a very fine crack about an inch long, I wasn't sure that it was possible to weld a head! I'll ask around here. Thanks, Paul
Daddsie, thanks for the offer .... I really appreciate it. My wife has booked tonight so I am unable to make Winchester. Sorry!
I am not desperate today - I was a couple of days ago! However, I have to do something about this as I am sure a head with even a faint crack in the combustion chamber is not a good thing!
Can I keep your offer in mind?
Thanks again! I won't be back on the forum until Thursday now!
Thanks, Paul

I'm still going to triple check that the 12G940 (1275 head with nice big valves..) head is fine on the 1098.
Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one of these days...
