mods are needed to use that gearbox, better off finding a midget/sprite gearbox. I think you have to use the entire marina propshaft and backaxle setup.

What Picky said, plus if you use a Morris Gearbox it can get quite expensive, as you need some engine backplate mods.

Thats interesting, didnt know you had to go with an adaptation from box to prop.
Been offered a whole marina but dont need the engine really, the marina gearbox needs slight work so thats enough to make me say no.
Shame really, was chatting to the guy last week, he was thinking i wanted to get the marina back on the road reckoning it was a superior car to the minor no accounting for taste i guess.
Was originally after it for the brake system but really happy with the travs brakes now all renewed so looks like the marina will be gong to the scrappy.

Well I don't want to offend any Marina Owners, it is a classic after all, but, it has to be one of the most boring square cars ever made. Handy for upgrades and a few bits, period.

A minor with a boring bodyshell and slightly modified front struts iirc.

It is seen as the replacement for the Minor. Possibly because of the visual similarity of drivetrain, suspension etc. however, in reality The Marina is much bigger and heavier and there are few parts common to both cars.

I'll keep my eyes open for sprite engine I think

sprite engine and box is literally a straight swap for the 1098 engine... worth waiting for one to turn up as its alot simpler and cheaper to do.

The engine will be fine - you just need to fit your Minor flywheel and clutch (drill 4 holes in it using the Marina flywheel as template - takes 15 mins) ) and use your Minor gearbox. If the price is right - go for it. Marina box is lots of trouble - the backplate is bigger (as is the Marina flywheel) and the starter motor gets in the way of the Minor body which is a bit annoying.

Given how fast the thing spins, how much it weighs, the saw tooth ring gear and where it sits in relation to legs I'd be a little worried about doing that!

If you get the holes perfectly aligned and in a meaty enough bit then fair enough, but I think I'd be happier getting it done by someone who knows what they're doing (and who can foot the bill... for new feet should the worst happen).

There's not really a shortage of Spridget 1275 lumps and though they use a different clutch/ flywheel they bolt straight onto the ribbed case box. Has to be the better option, surely?

It's dead easy - just bolt th two flywheels together and carefully drill through - there is LOTS of meat on the flywheel - no worries there.
Also need to use 1098 backplate and frontplate of course. Spridget 1275 engines go for lots more money.
