Regulator after fitting alternator

What function does the regulator box have after fitting an alternator please, Does it still need points cleaning periodically etc? Thanks, John

Regulator box is now obsolete as the alternator has a built in reg.

Ok but I wonder what the remaining wires are doing when still connected to the regulator? Thanks, John

the regulator is being used only as a junction box really, I have redone the engine wiring and removed it completely. Its just easier to have it still there unless you want to redo alot of wiring.

I hope you modified the wiring as per the alternator instructions? If you run the alternator loads through the regulator, you will fry the alternator.

Yes I followed the instructions to the letter backed up by this thread:

The only prob I had was the whole lot died because I resprayed the battery bay and the earthing point which was a worry initially but easily sorted.

Leave it there, it is now a perfectly adequate terminal block.
