I have discovered the cause of my Ign. light not going out.
The bulb holder had come out from the speedometer, or been left out by the previous owner?
I replaced it and discovered that the light stayed on. I replaced the alternator and checked the wiring, the bulb still stayed on!
While the engine was running I removed the bulb and holder from the speedometer and hey presto it now works as it should, the bulb now goes out when the engine is running.
Why this should be I don't know. Any ideas?
But it could be worth checking if your Ign. light stays on
I now have to find a way of insulating the bulb holder from the speedometer body.

That's really wierd, the bulb holder must be wired incorrectly. Normally the alternator IND connection goes to the ignition light, which is then earther via the bulb holder. Double check all the wiring from the alternator to make sure the change from dynamo has been done correctly.

Have they used the correct warning light - the RED one ? It should (as mentioned above) be insulated from the speedo case with just the two wires - one from ign switch and one from the small terminal on the Alternator.

Yes, it is the correct light.
the bulb holder is metal, is there a type made from plastic? That would do the trick.
