Spin on filter doesn't fit !!
I have just bought a new spin on oil filter conversion and i think i am either missing something or my new oil filter kit is . The problem is the mating surface of the new oil filter housing where it bolts onto the engine is a completely different profile to the original oil filter housing. Consequently when bolted to the engine there is a gap above the whole thing and had i not noticed it before starting the engine would have dumped the oil all over the floor. Is there some sort of adaptor required or will i have to make up some sort of plate/gasket bodge to gert round it or have i completely missed something here ? Im not overly excited about bodging it and have bought this kit with a view to saving a bit of time on servicing as i have another minor added to the collection of a 68 traveller and 68 van and he is a 3 week old minor called Charlie who is very keen on supplying me with rags in the garage in the form of my shirts which he is partial to being sick down ! Very handy for mopping up oil in case of the above ! I can't find any links with this problem so reckon i must be doing something daft ( usually the case ! ) but can't think i am the only one who has had this problem, the kit was purchased from a Moggie specialist for a 1098 engine car , does this mean i have a non original engine although i have tried it on the van engine and the it's the same on that too, i will be glad of some help on this one Darren

Have you removed the gasket from the block? I've seen people get this problem thinking that the raised face of the block was cast iron and that the housing didn't match (I've even seen one car where they hand made an apaptor plate!!). The raised area will be the old gasket.
If you down to the block face, it will be flat (and if so, ignore this tip!). If not then remove the extra bit of gasket and then you might get it to seal.
If you've already done that, then either your block or your housing is not 'normal'.
All the conversion kits that I've seen use a housing from other A-series applications which looks a very poor fit on the Minor block but overlaps the sealing face enough to work without an adaptor plate.
