Hi Guys 'n Gals,
I thought I would drop in and say Hi....
I am building a project traveller kustom (big project) and my wife, Paula.
She has waited patiently for 7 years for me to finish it but alas, I have not yet!
So, I felt really guilty and bought her a stock, 3 owners from new, full history 1962 traveller to play with.
It is lovely, very patina and needs tlc but we dragged it out the barn it was in and dusted it off, stuck a battery in it and she started and we drove it out the barn!!!!!
so, this was last night, it is now home, cleaned and all that needs doing so far is indicators (see electrical section for questions).
We are going to modernise it with an alternator, disk brakes and tune the engine a little and a nice paint job and have fun.......
so that will hopefully keep Paula happy until her Kustom Traveller is done.
We are in the forest of dean for those that want to know btw...
chat soon,
Spence & Paula

Kustom plans:-
New chassis, 2.9i engine and box, roof chopped with a split screen conversion (why? because we can!)
4" channelled over the chassis, rear end raked back from the lower section, stretched rear arches and welded up to cover the wheels and a split tailgate setup.
That is the plan.
I have a 53 buick that we are customising at the moment so that is taking all my time together with this new traveller that is too good to mess with really.

Sounds a bit like Gary Beezer's V8 traveller but with a ford V6. Like he did-go for just a 2" chop as much more than that can look really bad on a Minor.

Good idea to make a proper chassis- its the way to go for customs. Keep us posted with the progress- pics please. Also nice to hear you also have a Traveller that will be left alone.

The custom Traveller was a bad buy but has sentimental value so we did not mind modifying it, the newer addition to the family is original with all the paperwork from new, I couldn't cut it up.
We will be modifying it but with respect...

Update on the barn find, I put new wiper blades on it, drove it to the MOt station on Saturday morning and it passed!!!!!!
we are chuffed to bits.
Paula won't drive it yet until I have upgraded the brakes to Disk's (conversion already here so just need to get hubs drilled out to 4"pcd).
Also I will convert it to +12v Alternator.

So, the rolling resto starts here.
;)
I will post pics later.

The new addition, here are a few pictures.
She isn't pretty but she is original apart from the fibreglass wings.
As I said, Alternator conversion, Disk Brakes, Refurbished seats and a nice paint job and we are rocking!
She sounds lovely, runs nice and pulls like a train!
100% legal now too.

if it was me - I'd not bother with an alternator (unless your wife carries an AA card). They're not as reliable as the good old dynamo.

Like the traveller you've got there :D Could benefit from smehubcaps though ;-)
That wood needs some TLC as soon as poss to get it waterproof - the winter elements will soon make it mushy :( If the dark looking patches are solid, then you've got agood base to work on.
Typically people will use a dark stain on the wood rather than lighten it (bleach and sanding) but they do look lovely if you can get back to the light ash colour.

Hi Spence and welcome :D Loving the kustom trav have you registered it yet? You're welcome to register even though it's not finished yet, there are a few unfinished projects on the register now. Maybe you could do a write up and I'll add it the Projects in Progress pages of the website.

The 62 trav looks great and I love the reg, tips on lightening the woodwork are here

I think the wood, although fairly solid, is beyond lightening and Paula wants it dark to be different (although we did see one with red wood at a show.....soooo wrong IMO).

I may have registered the Kustom a long time ago but I have no problems doing it again.
What do you need from me?
I have lots of pictures but there will be a big gap in the build as I am not working on it until my 1953 Buick is on the road next year.

I've just had a quick look and can't see you on the register. If you head over to here and fill in the online form. While your at it have a browse on the website for more info on who and what we are and do. The link for the website is below ;)
