Which way to turn.

I'm in a spin. I thought when I fitted indicators to a trafficator car things would be straightforward (ie grab all the bits from a scrap car and patch it into Albert. But...

Referring to the Workshop manual wiring diagrams it's not relevant to what I have in my hand. I have a post '63 flashing indicator stalk with a set of wires coming out that do not match that shown. Specifically unit has 6 wires, the wiring diagram shows 3 from the flasher with different colours. :-?
Also where is the 'direction indicator relay unit' mentioned on the diagram? Note this is different to the 3-blade flasher unit (also shown).

Help!

Direction indicator relay unit sounds like the infamous Lucas DB10. Are you trying to fit separate yellow indicators or flashing sidelights/brakelights?

What ever it's called it's supposed to be part of the electrical system on a 1098 and for the life of me I can't recall seeing anything other than the flasher unit (small aluminium can) when I stripped a 1966 car not so long ago.
That'll be this thing then:

Where does it live because i've had four Minors of different ages and never seen one of those?

I'm fitting after-market indicator units front and rear.

The DB10 is only fitted on cars with flashing brake lights. It goes on the right inner wing next to the flasher unit. 1966 was probably after they changed over to separate yellow indicators.

p.s. the L1 terminal will go to a 3 terminal unit that has +tve power to the + pin and the P pin goes to the green lamp on the stalk.
done this one today!!! fun fun fun.

OK so If I read your post right all I need in the indicator circuit is the column switch, flasher unit and bulbs? The live feed passes to the flasher unit then a feed goes to the stalk bulb and another to the switch. Here it switched either to the left hand pair or the right hand pair and then to earth. Is that right?

Am I right then?

While we're on the subject, just wondering, did all minor 1000s have a flashing green indicator stalk? even the ones with trafficators?

Don't think there's been a Minor 1000 with trafficators, has there? The older Morris Minors which had them didn't have the green light - or the indicator stalk - though :D

Yes, Mine has them. the green light doesn't flash though as the semaphores don't either, they just light up.

Trafficators were in use until 1961, then flashing sideleights/brakelights until late 62/ early 63, then the later type light clusters came about with orange indicators.

IIRC the very early Minor 1000's had a different indicator stalk (shorter) and there was a bulb on the switch base, not on the end of the stalk. I don't think it's common to see these, as most of the early minor 1000's I've had have been converted to flashing orange indicators and also have the later type stalk too.

That's what Albert has (1958). The indicator stalk also compresses to sound the horn.
