What should be OEW and what shouldnt be?

Its getting to the stage where im going to be ordering lots of paint soon. So i need to now how much Old english white to get hold of.
My car is a 1957 4 door saloon in Clarendon grey. Should it be just the wheels that are OEW or the grill as well?

when youve done the white bits can you let us know how much paint you used? must order some too soon but dont want to buy too much.

Because yours is a '57 car there actually wasn't any OEW used. The wheels and grille were originally body colour, though a lot of people have changed to OEW when restoring. At the end of the day it's down to which you prefer really...

No on a '57 car the wheels and grille would have originally been light grey rather than white or body colour, im not sure what shade clarendon grey is but if it's light enough it will do and will save you buying an extra colour paint
I don't know if that makes sense out loud but it makes perfect sense in my head!

Right, so it should be a lighter grey than that of the surrounding bodywork.

Just an update...
I dug into Ray Newell's 'Original Morris Minor' book a couple of days ago (the bible as far as originality is concerned), and it confirms my point above that on your car the grille and wheels should in fact be body colour.

Hmmmm, looking in the haynes restoration manual it states that they were body coloured up until October 1956 and were then in light grey till '59 when they became OEW.
I thought that the body coloured wheels and grille were only on the series II anyway.
Now this is getting a bit awkward

mix it up your self if you wanting oew
i have looks good as well i migt be able to help out with 5 ltrs of white paint as wellnice and cheap well cheaper than i payed

moggies galore is correct - a '57 Clarendon Grey car would have originally had wheels & grill in body colour - Skilleter (Worlds Supreme Small Car) confirms this also. Only Black, Dark Green & Turquoise cars had Birch Grey Wheels - Feb 59 all cars had Pearl Grey Wheels & Grills - July 60 all cars OEW Wheels & Grills.
