rechroming

Post by uax6 »

I have a series II winged boot reflector that is showing quite a lot of pitting etc, how can I repair it, and how much is rechroming?

Thanks

re chroming as far as i know needs to be done on a pretty mirror like piece of metal - think a lot of the cost is the prep work & polishing to get it like that. Otherwise the chrome will show every surface flaw - with a lot of things its not economical to rechrome :-(
Dont know how much but certainly not cheap.

I'm wondering what to do with it, It looks fairly manky as it is, so do I just rub down the worst of it, fill the holes with filler, and then paint it with silver paint?

Sounds like it's not going to be affordable otherwise!

If its that bad therin lies the problem - if you sent it to be redone the pits would all have to be filled with metal - welded or braised etc so you can see why its dear.
you can get chrome paint - it wont be as good as the real deal but think i'll try it on the painted front bumber bar I have
not cheap but could be worth a go !

If it's for soemthing you want to be proud of - better get a new one. If you want it to look cheap and nasty - paint it with silver paint!

having just looked on the MMC brums website I can see that they are only 24 quid, so I might buy a new one, but as I'm putting it on a 1000 and modifying it slighty, I'll wait until I've got the old one finished and working until I spend the money!

Thanks
