Clutch adjustment

Any recs on the correct adjustment for pedal freeplay?
Had a look in the old haynes and it gives 2 options - for 2 different engines.
9m pedal free 3/4 "
10m pedal free 1&1/4"

well ive got 1 & 1/2 " so which engine is in the 73 trav ? :-?
and what should i adjust the pedal free to ?

As an aside it will be getting a replacement box over the winter, new clutch too (cummon Ray you just know you want to do the A9 in midwinter for a gearbox changing holiday :lol: ), just thought this might be a quick fix to see it out for a couple of months as its mighty juddery in reverse, first now too a little and never wants to go into second without a good crunch changing down from 3rd.
Not a problem with what it does or where it has to go day to day and just one of those other needed jobs thats get on the list as a result of now daily use rather than infrequent use.

Just tighten it up a bit and see what happens! 1.5" sounds a bit too much. The judder could be engine mounts/engine tie-bar/gearbox mounts - and the crunch into 2nd is standard unless you double-de-clutch, which you should - or next it will be jumping out of 2nd gear!!
As for the A9 - stuck in terrible jams yesterday at Gleneagles - avoid at all costs!! It was my intention to do so - but mates MGB was having engine problems and he didn't fancy the back roads - he soon regretted that decision when it lapsed on to 3 cylinders in the jam!!

Well engine etc mounts will all be renewed when it comes out for new box - yes could be that but engine seems quite stable and the mounts.
it doesnt even like going into 2nd with a DDC.
New box will be a 5 speed and maybe stick a little more power engine wise whilst at it. Its purring at 55, less so at 60-65 and 70 getting a thrashing on the revs - engines done less than 5k so not too worried, just looking for a slightly more refined cruise speed to the big city and trips to the meets south :-)
A9 a beautiful but also a treacherous road :-( dont thik a week goes by without hearing of numerous deaths on the news.

A decent stereo to drown out the noise is far cheaper than a five speed box and conversion kit! :D

Fenchurch cruises comfortably on the motorway at about 70 indicated.

A decent stereo to drown out the noise is far cheaper than a five speed box and conversion kit!
nooo ! would have to be a pair of those B&O noise canceling jobs - and 3 more pairs for the dogs :lol:

it's worth double and tripple checking the engine top steady - if it's loose or broken it will give lots of judder.
Other than top steady and engine mounts, the next most likely cause is the clutch itself. Some are just annoying like that but others have uneven release / uneven surface on the pressure plate or uneven cusion springs (in the middle of the friction plate) making them more juddery.
