Lockheed cylinders

I bought a set of brake cylinders from the local motor factors. They were Delphi (Lockheed) branded, but looking at the insides, they look just like the pattern ones I had fitted before, with the rubber seals integral to the piston, and an all metal cylinder with no other parts.

In the past I had cylinders that had an all metal piston, and inside the cylinder a rubber seal. They were AP branded.

What's the deal with this?

I think the 'integral' seal/piston is better!

A bit less than 10 years ago, AP sold their retail logos to Delphi distribution. Therefore Delphi own the rights to use the AP/Lockheed logos on parts they distribute, and that's all that the logo now means.

Many years prior to that, all the original production for classic cars was ended, and most small quantity service parts were outsourced by AP anyway - however the majority, if not all of it, was done with the original drawings from by AP.

If parts now being sold with the Lockheed logo don't match the original parts, then make of that what you will.
People confuse the Lockheed logo on a Delphi box as being the same thing as original Lockheed branded parts - Presumably that's why Delphi bought the logos.

And NO - 1/4" rear cylinders will be useless, but I'm guessing you mean 3/4"? These will obviously transmit slightly less force to the rear shoes than 7/8" cylinders - but as long as fitted in pairs should be ok. I think that size (3/4") was fitted to TR2 /3 3A ??
