Rough engine Idle

Post by chrisjenner »

I find that once it has warmed up the engine vibrates quite a lot at tick-over, and I get uneven 'lumpy' low speed running in 1st and 2nd gears, yet 3rd and 4th are smooth at even the lowest speeds.

Can anyone tell me the reason and cure?

Assuming mixture and timing are ok, I would suspect the Vacuum unit on the dizzy.

Or a blown head gasket. Suggest you first check the valve clearances - and have a look at the spark plugs - may be as simple as a new set of plugs. If it continues - get a compression test on the engine - that will tell all!

I had the same problem and it turned out to be an exhaust valve!

hope you get it sorted!
