The way I did it was to remove the wheel, drum, halfshaft, big nut (note that the nearside nut is left-hand threaded), and washer, then put the wheel back on with a piece of thick steel plate covering the hole in the centre of the wheel. I gradually tightened the wheel nuts down a bit at a time and eventually the hub came unstuck with a bang and I was able to work it the rest of the way off by gripping the tyre and waggling it back and forth.
You may want to take a look at
this thread before you fit the new seal. On Fenchurch the axles didn't appear to be worn but simply fitting new seals in the same place as the old ones wasn't enough to cure the leak.

Check first that the axle breather is not blocked - if it is this can force oil past the seal. Also check is it really axle oil - or is it brake fluid that has leaked ? The hubs usually just pull off - no great force involved - but you can bolt the wheel back on and usev the extra leverage to wiggle the hub off if necessary.

I had to use a two-legged puller to get the hub off when I did that job, it wasn't going to come off by hand alone. Neat idea about using the wheel & nuts though as getting something central for the puller to work against was a fiddle.
