Brake adjuster cams

One last question for tonight,

A few years ago I replaced the 7" front drums on my SII for 8", replaced the springs, but not the snail cams for adjusting the shoes.

All seemed fine until I replaced the brake cylinders using pattern types. Since then it was difficult to get the shoes close enough to the drums, but the older cylinders were fine, so I assumed it was bad castings in the pattern cylinders.

Are the snail cams different from 7" and 8" drums? They seem a bit pricey at ESM (5 quid each) so I don't want to replace them if I dont need to.

If you retro fit the 8" brakes and use the original adjusters you will lose
5 to 6 clicks of adjustment. You will end up with no adjustment left with plenty of thickness left on the linings. I certainly didn't pay a fiver each for my new ones. For the record the 7" front adjuster spindles are 7.5mm diameter, the 8" are 10mm diameter.

Is that for the cam only? or the Mask part too. Is the Mask different between 7" and 8" anyway?

That is for the complete adjusters, I don't know what the 'mask' is. If you mean the frame which houses the toothed adjuster then it is included

Thanks, I'll give them a call, ESM sell the two parts separately, and call the frame part "Mask for brake adjuster", together they cost almost £9+vat
