The entire sidelight circuit has stopped working on freemog after the engine rebuild. Has anyone got any idea what the likely causes are?

A duff switch has been suggested, I have a spare but i would like to check it works before I install it, so can anyone tell me what all the terminals on the switch are meant to connect to? (wire colour and which circuit would be appreciated)

Not the answer you're looking for but just been through the get the indicators & sidelights working rigmarole (corroded bulb holders required serious bodging) Think its the same circuit / fuse as the indicators..
Well got them fixed, went for a spin - they stopped ! turns out it wasnt the bodge fix that was the problem - was the fuse (the right hand one) the flat plate it made connection with held in by the springy clip thing was more copper oxide than copper and that was causing the problem. Quick scrape with a screwdriver and problem solved.
Worth a look just in case for the sake of 30 seconds.

I think that on my mog the side\tail light fuse is the one in the white 'flying' fuseholder under the fusebox. Could be that during the replacement of the engine, one of the bullet connectors to the front lights has been partially pulled out from its sleeve, and touched on the body thus blowing the fuse?

Agree could easily be that too - bit sensitive those things (especially when theres no holder metal and the rubber boot is held on with a cable tie to the remains of teh holder)
One knock could easily fuse the circuit.

As said above, check the fuse, check the connections, but also a main cause of problems- check the earth connection too! Re tighten the screws that hold sidelight to wing.

Its that flying fuse is it?? I thought that was a bodge a previous owner had done *whistles* all the other electricery stuff works and no obvious detachment of any connectors

Apparently the flying fuse was added to 'late' models to protect the 'pilot and tail light circuit' with a 10A fuse. All side/tail light wiring is run in red wire, the speedo panel lights in red/white fleck. Assuming your headlights work, check to see if you have power at that fuseholder when the sidelights are switched on-the fuse is after the switch, if not then there must be a wire off the switch or between the switch and fuse (red-green fleck) if not, as you say the switch is faulty. If there is power at the fuseholder, then it's likely that there is a bullet out behind the speedo. To my recollection there is a 4 way junction in the wiring behind the speedo where all the tail\side\panel light wires meet. I'd take the speedo out and have a look anyway, but it may be a good idea to disconnect the battery before removing the switch/wiring as the wires are not normally fused. Good luck
