Hi Guys I have a austin a seris 950 motor which I wish to rebuild. I will need to replace pistons and at a cost of $400 aus was wondering if any one has used some other pistons i.e toyota or ford?
I'm told that I would be better off using this motor as a anchor and repowering my morrie with a datsun or toyata motor any comments would be appreciated. :o Jon

The 950 engine is fantastic when it's in good order and they last very well. Very smoth, quiet and well balanced. The only downside is they are not so powerful, but at least you'll be able to hear yourself think.

Im not sure what $400 aus dollars is in Olde English Pounds but if the exchange rate is anywhere near 3:1 that sounds a normal price (certainly not a bargain, but they're not a common piston to buy)

I've read threads about people boring a bit bigger and running alternative pistons - giving just under the 1000, but if it was me I'd not bother. If you do go that route, then a good engine rebuilding firm should be able to find a similar sized piston that would suit.

Aye - bore it out +65thou and standard 998 Mini pistons will fit - may be less expensive. However - you will also need the 998 con rods to go with the pistons.

I thought that was a contradiction in terms, but let's not get into that discussion ;-)
