Whats with the google ads down the right hand side? I like the idea but NOOOO!!!!!!! I find them very distractive and bordering on the 'put off' feeling!
EDIT: in fact I can't be reading the forum now. My 24" widescreen seems to love the adds and they are halfway across the screen so I'll see if they are gone later and catch up then.

Totally agree Lee, wonder if any other traders can now advertise here then!?

Or put links to commercial sites (minor related) Should the club really be promoting Ebay after the last few weeks deliberations re dodgy ads ??

More problems...
1) I can't change anything on my profile... edited it went to save it and I got an 'invalid_session' message.
2) Read 1 post this morning and it marked them all as read. So I'm giving up completely!
3) Tried to start a new thread in Problems for these but I got 'invalid_session' again

If you mean the ads in the google bit? dont think you can choose what appears there - far as i know the click though rates are pretty decent in terms of money generated. Non ability to choose the ads being the downside.
Does narrow the page down a bit on a laptop but its still readable.

Actually just looking at it (used to do websites but i'm allright now

) that right hand side bar could be lost completely into the top blue horizontal - its blank space and that would fit in there with a little resizing....

its an interesting question, since there is now advertising where is the line drawn?
Also note the same problems as others getting a fair number of session expires, and the 'recently posted to' feature seems to randomly lose all the unread threads. (a mini forum does much better by keeping this info even if you log out and in so makes it very easy to catch up on things and does not get messed up by broken sessions)
if there is going to be tweaking of the software for the boards should we not consider a proper overhaul with a full upgrade on a separate machine then swap over rather than have us all beta test as we go?
I know its hard work keeping these things going, so hats of to those involved, but can we have less live testing.

Could the advertising be kept to just the index page, don't think we need it on every page viewed.?

Just wondering how this 'new' advertising impacts on the fact that traders cannot say we do this at this cost whilst writing on the forum, what are the new rules. Have seen Minor Miracles, BMW, Daihatsu, so far.

Curious, isn't it. It does seem to contravene the spirit of the terms an conditions,

Not complaining, like

but would it not have been 'nice' to mention this new feature to forum users before a decision was made to carry adverts.

Can we have an option to turn the adverts off?? If I want to read adverts I can do so in my copy of Minor Monthly, being a club member. And why can we not have ads for regional rallys, of the Club branches for example the HOP Kent branches regional rally being on the 9th Sept?
That would be far more relevant than baby names????

The ads are reading the text in this thread and responding on refresh. Lets see of this works. cheap air flights .

And why not? If baby names get a plug and MGM, why not a genuine Morris Minor club activity, like the Kent Branches Hop rally, 9th September, at Sarre windmill, Sarre near Margate.

hope to see some of you there!

Ads that relate to morris minors - great
Ads that relate to who my love soul mate is - cheap and tacky.....

Ads and images that I can tell my browser to not show, fine by me - ads rammed into my eyes whether I want to see them or not - well, it makes me a little cross, and yes, I DO turn the TV volume off/change channel when they're on TV, and tear them out of magazines and throw them away. Sad old bloke, me...
