Cooling improvements

Can anything be done to improve the cooling on the mog engine, (mines a 948 with 12g940 head). The fan seems to be a bit meagre, perhaps a better fan and a cowling to suit would help? Or are there electric set ups that you can "bodge" on?

go for a 74 degree thermostat from the mini specialists

no real need to improve the cooling on a minor, the set up as standard is more than adequate
we did at one time i remeber put another fan blade on, thats a bout all we did on the cooling side really

Bear in mind that the Minor engine has a massively oversize radiator already, and question whether you NEED to do anything - though the stat is probably a sensible summer alteration

If you, like me, have an improved cylinder head and carb, but a standard exhaust the engine will not get the heat away as well as one with a big bore exhaust so may run a bit hot. That why I went for the cooler stat now it seems fine.

No need to do anything - more than adequate cooling capacity. In fact -in winter you can easily run with NO fan !

Indeed, i fitted a Kenlowe to improve warm up rather than cool it down.

Fit a temperature gauge so you can keep an eye on it. The standard system is adequate providing it isn't blocked up with limescale and rust.

I fitted a radiator from a volvo 740 turbo. But i have a turbo in my engine bay. There are loads of slightly larger and much more eficient rads out there just take a tape measure down your lcal scrappy if you have one. But it does sound like the different thermostat is the way togo with yourself.
cheers, michael.

Improve cooling?
They over-cool at the best of times.

I fitted an extra fan blade to mine - making a four blade fan - because I thought the 1275 would need it.

I ended up with no heating as it kept it too cool.

Hello all,

bear in mind the fan is only for very slow running, once some sort of speed is achieved forward motion does all the cooling. My 2.5 P.I. Triumph has only a Kenlowe fan and that rarely ever cuts in, even in the summer, and as a few have pointed out the Morris is vastly over cooled anyway.
