Bizarre Trafficator problem

Post by annandrosie »

I know there are a lot of trafficator topics but I haven't seen one that can help me and am getting desperate

1955 2 door with the LH trafficator working. RH trafficator worked but bulb wouldn't light. When I took it to bits I noticed that the metal wire running along the top of the trafficator that completes the circuit had come out of the little holder so I put it back in, rebuilt the trafficator and.....nothing! And now my LH isn't working at all! :( I'm sure it's something simple and though I'm just a beginner I checked the fuse! (And there is power to the trafficator)

If anyone can help - using very simple words - I'd be really grateful.

trafficator

When you say 'nothing' do you mean that NEITHER of the arms now work?
Basics. If you apply twelve volts to one side of the unit and connect the other side to chassis then obviously, the solonoid should operate the arm. If it doesn't then the solonoid is faulty, or more likely since it worked before you stripped it down, you have replaced something incorrectly. It could also not be making a good contact to the chassis
which would stop it from working which you could prove by putting the battery leads directly across the unit. You could also check that you get 12v supplied to contacts 5 (R/H) and 2 (L/H) respectively on the
trafficator switch.

Yes, neither of the arms did anything. I'll try your suggestions, thanks. I didn't actually make any changes when I stripped down the R trafficator other than to put back the little wire and I don't know how that could've stopped the LH one working. :-? But I'm grateful for your help. I'll check the earth contact as well.

Thanks again
