any ideas on where to get the bleaching stuff from please

Sainsbury's Tesco etc, just use fresh lemon juice, it really works very well. There has been a recent link on this, so might be worth a search.

got some of that in the fridge or have i got to get a lemon
(think i've already bought one or two of them in the past )

Pancake lemon has additives don't use it, get a fresh lemon and squeeze it ;)

You can get wood bleach from your local decent DIY/trade paints store. I got wood bleach from a shop called Brewers.

Its oxalic acid, so although biodegradable, its poisonous so wear gloves. Lemon juice will remove rust stains from wood, but I can't see it bleaching darkened wood.

It may well do, but having never tried it I cannot comment. Oxalic acid has worked for me. I found an easy way of stripping off old varnish and bleaching at the same time. Paint the wood with oxalic acid solution, leave 30mins, then repeat, let that soak in then use a scarsten scraper to remove varnish and crud leaving nice lighter wood underneath.

did that get rid of the black stain marks tho

i've rubbed down one side no problem didn't take me too long

and it looked ok apart from a couple of black stains and quite a few on the rear piller

so i thought that'll be ok and varnished it bad move it now looks horrid and worse than faded/ chipped varnish

all i've done is highlighted the black spots

yes i can assure all that lemon uiice from a real lemon does work, we have used it in the trade for many years
we rarely use commercial 2 part bleaches
