Oil...

I'm guessing an oil leak (only a few drips) isn't normal? But how much of a worry is it? I know I should be investigating exactly where it's coming from, but with no garage and all this rain it's been a bit difficult to see underneath the car.

Seems to be from the sump though. Could it just be coming out of the dipstick hole when the engine gets hot? I do encounter a few hills in my daily driving.

Any thoughts appreciated. I know we've had oil leak posts before (which I have read), just wondering how concerned I should be really.

Thanks, Tobias

Far from it most Minors suffer from this, if you want to try and pinpoint it try to pick a dry period take the car for a quick run and when you park it slide a carboard sheet underneath and see what it reveals. You should not be losing oil from the dipstick hole if your dipstick is properly in place.

As with all leaks, cars or otherwise it always pays to start at the top and work down to trace the source of the leak, Good luck.!!

Well I have a Torrie Cannion [spelling?] leak!

Don't tell anyone ---- I overfilled the oil........

So, oil leaking from the engine and gearbox and just for good measure -- on the clutch......

Also, don't tell anyone ---- I didn't change the oilfilter and the crud removed resembles chunky peanut butter [not quite]! Nice scored design on the shells.

Idiot and embarrassed! But I've learnt from my mistakes....

So, budget dictates for now, engine cleaned up and attempt to fix oil leaks and reassemble.

Just had a charming chat with a guy from Morris Register. He knows of someone who used bathroom sealant for all the 'non high pressure joins'. And he said it worked! I'm not recommending it....

Oh yes, con rods bolts sheered off and main bearing ones too....
Found some con rod assemblies but still looking for main bearing studs and nuts..... help anyone......

Have a good weekend all.
