Engine must do's
Having pulled out my engine and gearbox, i set about doing a bit of a strip down on the engine and got as far as the head and auxilaries coming off. The engine allegedly should have only done 6,000 miles, the bores certainly seem to back this up. But, what will need replacing just to ensure i dont have to take it back out again in a years time? Also, i have a midget head and HS4 carb etc, would it be a good idea to build the engine back up to standard and put it back into the car to ensure everything is ok, then start fiddling with heads, cams and carbs......or just go straight for the mods?
Ultimate rust cure for your moggy....paint it brown, at least that way you dont notice the rust as much!!
Far easier to fit the cam NOW - if you can - fit it 4 degrees forward of the dot-to-dot (need stepped key for the sprocket - v cheap from Minisport) since this is the timing used on the later 1275 cars - was found to improve medium range torque. Was the oil pressure ok before it came out ? If so - leave alone. Fit crankshaft damper - and what is the 'Midget' head - is it a 12G295 ? If so - it will need skimming by 60 thou to keep the comp ratio up.
