I this might be a stupid question to some but here goes anyway, is there a difference in the brake shoes on a 1960 two door 948 saloon front and rear. I know that you have a leading shoe but other than that are they all the same size.

There is always the possibility,if you do not know the history of the car,
that the fronts have been fitted with the later 8" drum system.

The old 7" drums are very poor at stopping the car - the later 8" drums are much better, and - everyone will be waiting for this - the 9" drum brakes taken from a Wolsely 1500 are very very much better!!

Yes Yes but like i ask other than size is there any difference in the brake shoe fitting on the front and the rear the reason that I am asking this question is the 1960 948 2 door that I have almost finished restoring came with everything dismantled in various cardboard box's from a chap in his 80's with nothing labled and the shoes where loose in a box and most of the parts where new even the shoes.

Only one of the rear shoes has a location for the brake adjuster - the other is smooth. So - look for that - and then match it with any other shoe that is otherwise the same. The two front shoes may well be the same as that rear shoe WITH the adjuster location - it's 40 years since I worked with the wee 7" drums - so it's a bit vague now!!
