Other than the Mk2 Escort, what else shares its width with the Minor? I believe the Capri one is to wide, not sure by how much though. It will be running an 1800 Zetec with throttle bodies so wont have massive horse power.

I had a capri axle (3 litre) on mine and it fitted straight on to the minor springs, and width wasn't an issue.
Just search the web for rear wheel drive cars - Volvo 140/240, MGB, Austin A60, Sherpa Van, certain Toyotas, Jaguar Mk2, Fiat 124/132 etc etc, then check their rear track width against the minor - an inch here or there isn't a great problem.
Having said that, it should be pretty easy to get an Escort axle.

The rear axle on my CJ-5 Jeep is narrow enough to fit under a Minor.
Centre diff and available with various ratios.
Unburstable even with US V8 power !
No - mine isn't for sale.
MGB is very cheap to buy and fits.
Escort gets my vote though.

You didn't have to move the spring platforms on the axle? Now that's interesting. Apparently you do have to do that on the Escort axle.

Yes, it just popped straight on (well, was a bit heavier than the Riley 1.5 one).
