Track Days

Hi There.

I know some of you may frown and glare at me for even suggesting this, but does anyone know of any track days or hill climbs i can compete in with my Minor? I would like a period racer, like stepping back in time, but dont want to do all the work i there isn't anywhere to use it! Unfortunately it has four doors though, so might have to be a touring car!

Also, does anyone know if the Mini 1275 GT head will bolt on my 1098? I know with the classic escorts the 1600 head would bolt on the 1300 block for bigger exhaust valves, but i dont know if its the same for A Series. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to Morris and the A series.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sam.

The 1275 (12g940) heads bolts straight on BUT the exhaust valves will probably hit the block face. There are ways round this.

Do a search at the top of the page for '12G940' you will find several threads discussing this mod.

Sophie has exactly as you discribe 1275 head on 948 engine with the valves recessed by 50 thou and HS4 carb on MG inlet manifold

If you find any track day info...I might be interested too (once I get the relevant car on the road...!) :D

Thanks for the support! I've got to build my new enginer first, and uprate to discs and poly bushes, and new leaf springs etc etc, so it may be a little while yet!

I figure as long as its anoter Morris still in regular use, providing entertainment then it can't be a bad thing! At least its not rotting away in a field.

You can also use Metro 1300 head, or go the whole hog and get a metro turbo head with the turbo

Sounds like a plan! Will the 3 bearing bottom end take it, or would i need to get a bearing one from a midget?

All A series are 3 bearing, however if you spot a midget (10CC prefix on the engine number) grab it, it has the 2" mains like the 1275s :)

I'd love to take mine to the odd track day but I can never be bothered to drive 2-an-a-bit hours to Bristol (closest 'local' track).

Most important thing to sort is the handling. No matter how many engine mods you do you wont get any benefit if your door handles are still scraping the tarmac on the corners.

Eh? Where's the Bristol track - or did you mean the city itself?

I always thought castle coombe was up that way... if not then I'll have to have another look for a local one.

Castle coombe is my local track. Went there a few months back with my friend for a maza meet up there. As I don't own a mazda, I took my works van full of spare tyres, a bbq and 30 quids worth of steak!

Hopefully soon, he can cook the steaks while i'm out on the track!

Talking of handling, i was going to use spax telescopic dampers front and rear, polybush the lot, and add new rear leafs. Would this be enough? Is there anything else i should consider?

Thanks!
