Hi, I am currently looking for a new SU carb for my 948cc Morris. Everything on it at the moment is standard and is currently running a very worn SU hs2 Carb.
What carb should I get? all SU carbs (hs2, hs4, hs6) are priced almost the same but which will be best for that engine and will i need to buy a new inlet manifold?
Thanks Andy

if you have no other engine mods, then the HIF38 would be the best for you engine in terms of both power and economy. the HIF38 (also known as HIF4) are hard to find, so you could also fit a HS4, which will be almost the same, and is basically a bigger hs2. the HIF44 might be easy to get but is really too big for your engine.
The HS4 and HIF38 are 1.5" diameter, as opposed to the hs2 which is 1.25". the HIF44 is 1.75" diameter and will be too big!
you will need a different air filter and inlet manifold though... there are some good previous posts on this subject, I would search the forum.

If all you want is reliable running with no performance increase - just get another better condition HS2 and fit that. Anything else is going to involve changing manifolds and/or hacking about the manifold you already have. Why do you think it's worn ? They can last 'for ever' - the only parts that wear are the float valve, the jet/needle and the throttle spindle and it's bearings. All easily renewed DIY. Just buy another carb (on here,or on ebay) - and fit it while you then overhaul your own carb at your leisure!
