Rubber bung won't fit after new Master Cylinder?

Had a new master cylinder fitted, now the rubber floor bung won't fit. It seems the top of the master cylinder is proud of the floor level, so the bung keeps getting forced out of the hole. Any one else seen this, and is there a remedy? (It was a genuine replacement, not a pattern part...)

is the master cylinder cap screwed down fully? only reason I can think of for it being too high... I have the bung missing on mine and nobody notices it under the carpet....

I learnt something new! Didn;t know there was supposed to be a bung there. Good idea as it might help keep crud from collecting in the chassis leg.

I've never seen one either - but only had 16 Minors so far.
Most likely is that the distance between bolt holes and the top of the reservoir is bigger than the old unit. Alos it may be that the cap is deeper or just has a thicker sealing washer.
There is a 'small' amount of clearance between the m/c and the cross bolts so you might be able to get it down a bit more - however if it was me I'd probably not even try. If it's a concours car you may want to persevere and fix it ;-)

The cap is too high for the bung on Fenchurch too. I put it down to that chassis leg having being replaced at some point.

Is it a Pattern or Lockheed M/c as I think the Pattern one has a different cap shape (Square instead of Hex)

Mine's Lockheed.

I cut a underfelt donut out to fit round the hex nut to even the carpet out...

I would doubt that there was ever a rubber bung over the master cylinder cap. The workshop manual shows all three types of gearbox cover including their assorted rubber bungs and none of them have one over that cap?

I own a 1971 Pickup and that has a rubber bung over the master cylinder cap. As in other posts it seems non LCV owners dont seem to have even seen one of these said bungs, where they just a LCV item. Is the chassis leg on a Commercial deeper/taller than a saloon (i know the gearbox crossmember isnt interchangable). My bung looks very similar to the one for accessing the gearbox oil filler.

As I said, never seen one on any of the 6 LCVs I've owned

It certainly looks likely that only the LCVs had these bungs. Perhaps
Russell could give the definitive answer?
