They have never checked my chassis number at the MOT, although I believe that they have checked the VIN plate.

Both My mogs have the last part of the chassis number stamped on the bulkhead panel below and to the right of the fusebox.

Chassis plates can be purchased from most Minor parts specialists supplied blank and need stamping/engraving. There are different types depending on age of car.
Last time my saloon was MOT'd the tester checked the chassis plate against the number on the old MOT cert. That's the first time I've noticed it being checked.

I have just got a new vin plate part DEC 202 late type £3:75 + vat for the bulkhead from Bull Motif 01386 831755 / 831716
The earlier square one is DEC 203 £4:25 + vat and the chassis no only plate DEC 204 is £2:25 + vat
Mine is also stamped in the bulkhead where Pete mentioned.

My local dog identity disc supplier/key cutter engraved both my new chassis plates and made a superb job of them. Fortunately I knew he was reliable but I'm sure they're not all the same standard.

The original ones were all done by hand and eye thats why the letters and numbers are not at all even on the original plates, have a look next time you are at a Rally.
