Head gasket

Post by eastona »

I fitted an alternator at the weekend, along wth new points, plug leads, dizzy cap, car was running well, sweet.

Until....head gasket failure. Between 3 and 4. At least Maggie had the good grace to break down outside my house

I got a new head gasket, and was just about to just slap it back on when I realised I had a burnt valve, and another on the way.

I've bought 2 new valves (cheapskate) but need to recondition the seats on those 2 as they're a bit burnt. Unfortnunately my valve seat cutters are in Newcastle....and I'm not.....

Any ideas? Should I just bite the bullet and take it to a machine shop??

What about looking for a second hand mini head (998) would that be an improvement?

998 Mini head will fit - and may be 'unleaded' - the ports and valves are same as 948 head but smaller than 1098 head - so if your engine is a 1098 there will be some power loss. However - it will work fine while you sort out your own head meantime.
