there should be a blank bolt in the main block under the thermostat housing / near spark 1

if you have the right sender it simply screws in here

If you haven't got the blank bolt in the thermostat housing, I believe you can put it in place of the NSR block drain plug.

It wouldn't be very accurate right down at the block drain plug. If your
head does not have the blanking bolt then it is possible to buy a thermostat housing which has a mounting point built in. The sender unit is a taper fit so there should be no need for a washer.

All 1098 (and 1275) heads should have the take off point for sender. Can also get thermostat covers with take off fitting. Drain plug point would be hopeless.

ive had alook and all i can see is a drain plug at the front of the head just behind the thermostat housing, ill see if i can find a housing in work tommorow with the hole in it.goto be easier then drilling the drain out.

This photo shows where the temperature sender goes. If the sender is the right size it should screw straight in after you remove the blanking plug.

If it's an electrical gauge - note it needs to be wired through the stabilised voltage supply.

I did this upgrade recently, like the others said its a simple job. I removed the blank below the thermostat housing. There should be a spare spade connection (male I think) on the voltage stabiliser (stabilised side) for your supply.
Good luck!

yes it is a electrical gauge, would the stabaliser be behind the speedo next to the fuel gauge?and that needs to be wired into the live of the gauge?ive never fitted electrical gauges before only vacum,im glad you said that cos i wouldnt have done that

If your minor is positive earth, the wire from the sender unit goes to the positive terminal of the guage and the negative connection of the guage connects to the voltage stabiliser.
Its as simple as that. If your car is negative earth connect it opposite to what I said.

:) I forgot to say, the stabiliser is fitted behind the speedo. Its a small silver item. Check the following link to help you out: http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/technica ... gauge.html.
Your stabiliser should have a spare connection on terminal "I". Connect your wire there.
Let me know how you get on.

I'll try to remember to have a look for the photos, as I did this recently too and I'm sure theres some pictures kicking about.

The voltage stabiliser on the back of the speedo is easy to spot - it is kind of stuck on and has (as far as I remember) a green wire going to the fuel gauge (among lots of others!).

When you take out the speedo, just loosen the screws at the sides a bit, dont remove them completely - the speedo will just slide out forwards with some persuasion.

As an alternative, you can buy a voltage stabiliser and connect that to the battery.

Hope this helps

all done, spent the morning out there, the only snag i had was when connecting the live to the voltage stabliser and trying it,the gauge was flicking up and down,i then connected it to the other side of the stabiliser and its ok??so im assuming the stabiliser is shot, its all working well though,i drilled and tapped the blank in the head for the sender,it was a diffrent thread, now i can keep my eye on the thing.thanks for the helpmuch appreciated :D

The stabiliser might not be powerful enough to handle both gauges. I think if you don't use a stabiliser the temperature reading will be wrong. The solution is to fit a second stabiliser just for the temperature gauge.

hi all
ive found another stabaliser on a spare speedo that i had and used that as well as the original, seems fine, however having driven the car a fair distance it reaches no more than 60c,140f,i would have thought it would be slightly more than that,or no???? i know im a pain"""thanks though.
