I have a 64 Traveller that has previously been converted to a pickup.
Unfortunately we are going to outgrow the car in October when the littlun arrives, so I was wondering...

Has anyone converted one back into a Traveller before? Am I being very silly?

I have noticed that the spare wheel no longer fits below the frame. It might only be because the drop door gets in the way, but it doesn't look like it'll go anyway. Is it likely things have been moved?

I have never done any serious structural work on a car before, so I might be biting off more that I can chew, but I thought I'd ask anyway!

It really depends on how much work was done to the car to make it a pickup.

Are you absolutely certain that it was done using the Traveller floorpan, and wasn't made on a van chassis...?

It sounds like it could be quite an involved job, and while there is a market for the travellerised pickups, I'm not sure how viable it would be to convert one back to its original state.

Don't suppose you would consider flogging it and buying a traveller, or indeed buying a rough 'n' ready 2-door to use as a runaround?

Definately a Traveller, not a van / pickup chasis. You're probably right and yes, I would consider selling it and buying another car. I guess the work just isn't going to be worth my while.

My only problem is that I play guitar and therefore have gear to cart around, the sort of gear that would fit nicely in the back of a Traveller (or pickup), but not so easily in a saloon, which limits my options!

Actually getting another moggy was my first solution, but the thought of un-doing the conversion at least warrented investigation.

It really depends on whether you could bear to be parted from it. I wouldn't sell mine for the world - well perhaps, but I'd have to think long and hard about it. Crikey! Don't tell her that!

You might be best looking for a nice traveller to replace it with. The bootspace on the saloon is a bit limited, I grant you. I've just started playing acoustic guitar (and boy are my fingers sore!!) and the only place for that to go is on the back seat... Heigh ho.

Parting with the car will be easier said than done! It's a bit tatty, but I've put a lot of time, money and effort into that car! Liz (my wife) has is much less attached to the car - mostly because she hasn't done any work on it - so persuading her to let me keep it, well anyway...

Perhaps I'll get a saloon for now & keep the pickup for carting gear around..

What I really ought to do is get a Traveller and compare the two, then I'd know what work was involved.

Oh well, I'll just worry about keeping her on the road until I decide what to do!
